Something fishy going on: Jim Carrey makes some slippery new friends on set

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Eccentric: Jim Carrey gets into character playing with some fish on the set of his new movie, Mr Popper's Penguin in NYC today

There is definitely something fishy about Jim Carrey at the moment.

The actor has been playing up with some slippery little creatures usually found in the sea.

But it's all in the name of his new movie, Mr Popper's Penguins, which he was filming in New York's Meatpacking district on Thursday.

Jim plays a wealthy New York businessman who finds his life changed for the better when he inherits six penguins.

The film is based on a popular 1938 children’s book by Richard and Florence Atwater.

Dressed in a dapper suit, scarf and coat combination, Jim visits a fish market appearing to be doing a spot of shopping for his character's new pets.

At one point the comedic actor daringly puts the aquatic animal up to his nose for a whiff.

Bargaining: Jim's character appears to wage pricing wars in the children's film

With typical Carrey kookiness, the 48-year-old actor even pretends to play-fight with the fish in front of stunned onlookers.

The film is a welcome return to the screen by the comic actor.

Jim appeared to have recently taken a break from the big screen, with his last film being A Christmas Carol in 2009.

A class act: the actor's comedic talent once again appears to shine through on the set of his new film

The hiatus may well have been due to his relationship woes.

The funny man ended his five year relationship with actress, Jenny McCarthy in April this year.

The two had been dating since December 2005, but did not make their relationship public until the following year.

Jim is reportedly living the bachelor life while Jenny is also single after splitting with her body-builder beau, Jason Toohey this month.
