Cheryl’s looking a bit ruff! Cole hits a low note in disastrous dress at Kimberley Walsh's Shrek debut

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

It's not that kind of theatre! Cheryl opted for a Shakespearean-style collar as she attended her Girls Aloud band-mate Kimberley Walsh's debut in Shrek The Musical

She was supporting her friend as she performed in a modern-day musical.
But Cheryl Cole looked as though she was trying to channel Shakespeare last night with a bizarre ruff-style collar.

The axed X Factor judge - known for her fashion hits and misses - watched Girls Aloud band-mate Kimberley Walsh as she made her West End debut in Shrek The Musical.

What happened? The look was a far cry from Cheryl's glamorous attire at Monday night's Pride of Britain awards where she donned a Victoria Beckham dress

The 29-year-old has replaced Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, who is pregnant with her second child, as Princess Fiona.

Cheryl's black and white fitted dress also sported an interesting puffed piece of material around her waist which matched the collar.

Looking good: Nicola Roberts opted for a cute high-waisted skirt and leather jacket while Cheryl dressed up a little more glam

Cheryl posed happily backstage at London's Drury Lane Theatre with Kimberley and their fellow band mate Nicola Roberts, who celebrated her 26th birthday today.

After the show she wrote: 'Kimberley absolutely Killed it.. What a great show !!'
She added: 'Happy Birthday to my girl Ginge @NicolaRoberts .. Love you sooo much.. Let's party Biiiiittttttttcccccches!!!'

In contrast to Cheryl's attempt at glamour, Nicola opted for a more rock chic look last night with a cute high-waisted skirt and a black leather jacket.

It's serious work: Cheryl had a very protective minder looking out for her as she walked into the theatre

Standing out in the crowd: Cheryl opted for bright pink lipstick which contrasted with her white ruff collar

Well done! Cheryl and Nicola proudly watch on from the Royal Box, clapping and cheering for their friend

Kimberley was the perfect doppelganger for Princess Fiona, donning a long red wig, gold crown and the character's signature green velvet dress.

It was announced in August she would be joining the cast of Shrek.
She has been working hard to pursue her acting career since Girls Aloud announced they would be taking a hiatus.

Well done girl: Cheryl gave Kimberley a standing ovation for her performance in the play

Causing a frenzy: Fans and photographer battled to get a glimpse of the star as she left the theatre accompanied by security

As well as starring in recent children's movie Horrible Henry, Kimberley took on the role of Eponine in Les Miserables for ITV2 documentary The Passions Of Girls Aloud back in 2009.

In fact, it was in Les Miserables that Kimberley first started her career, starring as Cosette when she was just 12 years old.
Amanda left the show two months earlier than she had originally planned.

I did it! Kimberley looked ecstatic as she left the theatre after her performance

Something's different: The usually-stunning Kimberley dons a fat suit to play the ogre in Shrek

Eyes affront boys! The suit even sported fake cleavage which was pushed up by her dress

Back to princess: Kimberley looked the part with a long red wig styled into a plait and the character's trademark green dress

Upset, but happy: The star, who has been trying to break into acting, poured herself into the role, expressing a range of emotions

Freaking out: The production follows on from the blockbuster Mike Myers films about Shrek, a grumpy, smelly ogre, who is hiding a heart of gold

'Due to its physical content this means I will end my contract with Shrek The Musical eight weeks early.

'I will endeavor to continue the show until the 3rd October. I do however ask you to bear with me as I will be putting myself and this pregnancy first.'

Just wed: Just like in the movie, Princess Fiona gets married in the production

In love: Kimberley with her co-star Nigel Lindsay, who plays Shrek, dancing on top of their wedding cake and surrounded by a massive heart

It's all over... until the next show: The rest of the cast take a bow at the end of the production
