Frosty relations finally thaw between Wayne and Coleen Rooney... and he even gets a hug

Sharing a joke: There were smiles all round as Coleen and Wayne lay by the pool at the Burj Al Arab Hotel on Thursday

It's taken five days and almost £20,000, but the frosty relations between Wayne Rooney and wife Coleen finally thawed out yesterday.

Mrs Rooney, 24, appeared to have forgiven her footballer husband as she cuddled up to him in a swimming pool at their seven-star luxury hotel.

She rubbed tanning lotion gently onto the England star's sun-burnt back, before throwing her arms around his neck as they smiled and joked together in the pool.

It was the first public show of affection between the pair, who had been barely speaking during the first four days of their Dubai holiday.

They are on a lavish holiday at the £2,000-a-night Burj Al Arab hotel, to celebrate Rooney's £200,000-a-week contract to stay on at Manchester United.

But their break got off to a rocky start when they had a furious row on their first night, when diners at a steak restaurant watched the pair bicker, and even accidentally smash a glass during their argument.

Big appetites: The couple chowed down on pizzas, sandwiches and chips for lunch

Their marriage has been rocked by claims that the footballer cheated on his wife while she was pregnant with son Kai, by sleeping with two prostitutes in a Manchester hotel.

The row over Rooney's alleged infidelities left his wife struggling to forgive the multi-millionaire, now Britain's highest paid footballer.

And the 25-year-old's petulant contract wrangle at Manchester United prompted fury as the rest of Britain struggles in the grip of the worst economic crisis for decades.

Close again: The couple were seen hugging in the swimming pool on Thursday afternoon

Meanwhile the Rooneys have enjoyed four sunshine holidays so far this year, including two trips to Barbados, and are now staying in one of the world's most expensive hotels.

But astonishingly Mrs Rooney moaned to a holiday-maker that they were paying for their Dubai break, including their eye-watering £2,000-a-night luxury suite.

The couple make millions from lucrative advertising campaigns for Coca-Cola and Nike, on top of Rooney's footballing contract and various magazine deals, but the mother-of-one was heard whining to a fellow guest on a business trip: 'We've had to paid for this ourselves.'

Sunbathing in style: Coleen was wearing a Missoni bikini as she worked on her year-round tan

Their hotel bill continued to mount up yesterday, as the couple tucked into pitchers of cocktails for lunch, followed by a £20 pizza, a £10 portion of chips and two £25 salads.

Mrs Rooney sported a massive diamond ring on her left hand, believed to be the £200,000 10-carat Chopard yellow diamond Rooney gave her as a 21st birthday gift.

She appeared to be planning the star's 25th birthday celebrations, due to go ahead last weekend but postponed while the pair jetted off to Dubai.

They had planned a £90,000 party for up to 500 guests, in a giant marquee in the grounds of their £5million mansion in Cheshire.

Heading home to party: Coleen and Wayne are expected to return to the UK for his 25th birthday party on Saturday

Caterers arrived at the house yesterday, where the marquee was still visible on Rooney's five-a-side football pitch, and the birthday celebrations are expected to go ahead this weekend.

But the footballer had better hope his wife is not in charge of planning. Mrs Rooney scribbled in a notebook as she lay sunbathing for a fifth successive day, in a fifth successive bikini.

She toyed with her iPhone as she penned a memo entitled '30th - BDay', a signal that the party will be tomorrow.

But her guestlist contained just a handful of names, including 'Me, Wayne, Mum, Dad'.
