Off he hops: Wayne Rooney, pictured earlier this week, has fled to Dubai with wife Coleen, cancelling his £90,000 birthday bash

Wayne Rooney dramatically quit Britain last night for Dubai, cancelling his £90,000 birthday bash.

The Manchester United star fled with his wife Coleen, 24, for a five day break yesterday, leaving their one-year-old son Kai with her parents.

Rooney, who agreed to a shock £250,000-a-week deal to stay at United this week, had planned to hold a champagne party in a marquee which had been erected in the garden of his luxury £4m Cheshire mansion.

The sports star is said to have decided to ditch his birthday plans at the last minute, having had a week from hell and wanting to get away from it all, according to the News of the World.

He had invited 100 guests to the party and ordered a mountain of food and drink.
A source told the newspaper: 'Everyone was really looking forward to it.

'You can imagine the disappointment when when Coleen phoned round to say it was all cancelled.'

The party was due to be held today after Man Utd's match against Stoke.
Guests were set to be treated to a Chinese banquet with dim sum, crispy pancakes and sweet and sour dishes.

It is believed Wayne and Coleen will stay at Dubai's seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel in the United Arab Emirates where rooms star from £1,200 a night.

Rooney, who was exposed last month for allegedly having a threesome with prostitute Jenni Thompson and another girl while Coleen was pregnant, is seemingly take a leaf out of his fellow England star John Terry's book.

Terry also stayed at the plush hotel to repair his marriage witbh wife Toni earlier this year following allegations about his affair with Vanessa Perroncel.

It's off: The Manchester United player had invited 100 guests to his £4m mansion in Cheshire for the party, which was due to be held today
